Crossroads Guitar Festival
So now we have Santana.
I now liken him to Rusty Wallace of Nascar....THE WHINER. It seems as if
he were upset that he wasn't the headliner of the show...immediately apparent
as he stormed through
a swirl of meaningless
chords and wayyy to much distortion as he set out to prove to us all
that he was the
king of the guitar. Well I have news Carl....you sucked.
The death knell was
his comment that he was very priveledged to be a part of the festival
and that he really
admired the way Eric Clapton was healing the world...then he added
"doing the opposite
of Bush". At this point, I had to take time out for a bathroom run...something
I had not been inclined to rush off to do all day since the entertainment
had been so good. This comment
brought on a sea
of boos (Hey Carl, Bush is a Texan) and in the words of a good friend,
"he lost
me there for sure".
As Bugs bunny would say..."what a maroon".
So anyway, now it's
dark and I decided to show Carl the same respect he showed me by
making some of his
pictures about as clear as the riffs he forced upon us. Digitals like mine
aren't very good
at night...unless of course you take out the flash and open the lens
for a long time.
Without a tripod, you get results like this...(3 pictures down)
Here's where Eric joined him (probalby to try and make heads or tails of the set)...
Carl brought on another
artist who was pretty good. I can't remember his name,
but he was much
easier on the ears.
Here they are in
set change mode and you can see the crowd being illuminated by the annoying
lights they had mounted on the sound board/camera tower on the floor. I
hgighly advise anyone else reading this
not to mount lights
like this, the result was blinding a bunch of folks. I know they were there
to illuminate the
crowd for the filming that was taking place, but the Cotton bowl lights
way up on the grandstand would have worked much better and not blinded
anyone.
