Jimmie and the band
continued to back the next few guitarists. Hubert Sumlin was the first
to appear with singer David Johansen formerly of the New York Dolls (who
looks like a cross between Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler). Turns out he's
a pretty good blues singer and Hubert was the first of the 'chair' guitar
players to perform. He sat down the whole time he was on stage. Considering
his 73 year age and the heat and humidity, I don't blame him a bit!!
This marked the first
time I had seen either one on stage and it was fun to watch them both.
Two people from different worlds for sure, but it worked well. I wish I
had gotten more than this one shot, but I didn't. At this point, I started
to realize how many shots I had left and started to plan them out so
I had some left
for the headliners.
